Satellites have been a great contribution to navigation, war, forecasting weather, and basically everything. When our civilization didn't have the technology of GPS, we got lost and always took the long routes. Now with the help of GSP we're much more mobile and quicker. The Army have been using GPS very well, for example the operation Desert Storm. USA troops were in the middle of the desert. Where for miles and miles the horizon would look the same, if GPS wasn't yet in use for them, they would get lost and go around in circle for hours if not days. GPS in Military is to me a top weapon, even if it doesn't fire missels or shoot AK-47 bullets at soldiers. GPS can guide a missel to the precise location that it's supposed to land. GPS will now be used much more often by everybody.

1) This year European Commission and the European Space Agency is launching the project Galileo.
2) Galileo is supposed to be more accurate and stronger signals than a GPS.
3) Galileo has in total 30 orbiting satellites.

2) Galileo is going to be far better than GPS and its going to help out a lot in navigation.

2) During Operation Desert Storm, the system is also capable of detecting some short-range missiles, like Scuds, that could jeopardize U.S. troops.
3) The NAVSTAR Global Positioning System was one of the heroes of Operation Desert Storm.
Two things I found interesting.
1) The sensors detect and track exhaust heat generated by ballistic missiles, then immediately relay the data to U.S. Space Command's missile warning center in Cheyenne Mountain, Colo.
2) Confirmed threats must be reported to the president within four minutes of initial detection.
One question I still have.
1) Why do the Military have to report the president within four minutes of initial detection of a missile or threats?

2)The first successful meteorological satellite sensor (to measure the Earth's global heat budget) was designed for Wexler by Verner Soumi, another Rossby alumnus
3) A decade before an eerie "beep beep" from space announced that Sputnik I was orbiting the Earth every 96.2 minutes, American military scientists were using camera-equipped German V- 2 and Navy Viking rockets to photograph cloud systems from high altitudes.
Two things I found interesting.
1) Hurricanes often went undetected until they sank a ship or savaged a people-packed island or coastline.
2) They use satellite cameras to forecast the upcoming weather.
One question I still have.
1) How accurate can they be with the upcoming weather? Since the weather can change drastically in short amount of time.
