I learned that nearly 70 percent of processed foods sold in the United States contain ingredients that have been injected with foreign genes, hereditary information in cells that control an organism's growth. I also have learned that they use a Gene splicing technique in the lab to create new kinds of GM foods or discoverys. This lets scientists transplant genes from almost any organism into another. Two things that i found interesting was that GMOs can help fight disease and that GMOs are tested before they are put in the market. A question that i have about this is Why are people so against GM foods if it helps feed countries and helps fight disease?

I discovered that GM foods are not labeled when they are put in supermarkets. I have also discovered that roughly 75 percent of U.S. processed foods--boxed cereals, other grain products, frozen dinners, cooking oils and more--contain some genetically modified, or GM, ingredients. Also that non-processed meat, poultry, fish and dairy products, and fruits and vegetables are not genetically modified. I have learned that More than 80 percent of the soy is made in this country. Also that More than 40 percent of the corn is GM. One question that i have is that Why isn't GM foods labeled at the supermarkets that we shop at?

I learned that they have found a way to speed up the time to grow certain plants. I also have learned that they took a gene from a plant that was for cell division and modified it to make it go faster. Many people oppose this kind of genetic engineering. I found parts about how they use genetic engineering to make them more attractive or resistant to insects and disease. a question that i still have is how fast does it speed plant growth up? 1 week? 2 week? a month?

I learned that Genetically engineered foods can also be known as biotech, bioengineered, and Genetically modified. I also have learned that scientists are growing plants that produce antibodies to help fight cancer, heart disease and tooth decay. Aso that these GM foods are regulated by three government agencies, they are the FDA, the USDA, and the EPA. Something that i found interesting was that the first generation of genetically engineered crops were made to benefit the growers only. Also another thing that i found interesting was Several private and government organizations have studied the safety of genetically engineered foods. A question that i have is what about the people with allergies?
