Satellites

Mr. Beder

  1. Works at school
  2. Very interested in technology
  3. Loves to fix computers
  4. Teaches technology

Satellites are a device that is sent up in the atmosphere to use as a spy and as a way to tell weather and many different things. The first satellite was sent up by the Russians. Then a few years later one was sent up by the Americans. Satellites cameras are so good that even though they are thousands of miles up they can still take a clear shot of some ones face.

George Bush – So i know that your the one of the leaders in the military , so how are the satellites helping the military to protect the
US
Bill - Yes mr. President the sattelites hhas helped us alot lately we can basically spy on what ever country we want and see what they are doing. So its lepin us out a lot.

Satellites

Intro
  • What is a satellite?
- A Satellite is an object launched to orbit Earth or another celestial body.
- It orbits the earth and the moon
- The first artificial Earth satellite was Sputnik 1, launched by the Soviet Union in October 1957; the first successful American satellite was launched in January 1958.

Body I
  • What are satellites used for today?
- Satellites are used for research, communications, weather information, and navigation.
- Satellites are also used by the USA as a defense weapon

  • When the USA did launch its first satellites?
- At first the USA wanted to launch a satellite in 1945 but they had a lot of trouble doing so because the navy didn’t believe that satellites can be used as a defense weapon. They thought it would only be for the use of science and politics.
- Then the navy was pressured by the American Rocket Society, the National Science Foundation, and the International Geophysical Year, the in early 1955 the Air Force and Navy worked on a Project Orbiter, which involved using a Jupiter C rocket to launch a small satellite called Explorer 1. They did this on January 31, 1958.

Body II
  • How is the USA using satellites as a defense weapon against other countries?

How are satellites used as a USA defence machansim?

  • When did the U.S.A. decided to use satellites as a form of defense?
  • Why did the US use satellites as a spy?
  • What was the reason for the satellites?
  • What did the US do with the use of the satellite in the army?
  • How many countries did the USA spy on?
  • Has satellites been used illegally?
  • How the use of satellites is protected the citizens of the US?
  • How do other countries feel about being spied on?
  • Do other countries use satellites as a spy too?
  • Do other countries use satellites as a form of defense?

v Satellites are used to help out the USA military in wars
v Satellites are also used spy on other countries
v Other countries also used satellites as spies
v People are being recorded every where they go
v The launch of satellites are affecting the ozone layer
v Satellites are being used to help with the weather
v The first satellite was launched by the Russians
v Satellites cameras are very so accurate that they use it to make maps
v Satellites are now being made by NASA
v People are starting to depend on satellites for a large amount of things like cable, phones services and other electronic services

Three things i found interesting
  • The U.S. Geological Survey was also supporting the U.S. Agency for International Development's Famine Early Warning System project by providing technical support and satellite derived products to help assess the nature and extent of the drought and famine in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Mozambique.
  • The Bureau of Reclamation continued numerous applications of remote sensing to a variety of resource management objectives
  • A major step in understanding the oceans came on August 10, 1992, when the U.S. and France successfully launched the joint Ocean Topography Experiment, TOPEX/POSEIDON, aboard an Ariane 42P expendable launch vehicle from the European Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana.

Questions i want to ask
1. How thought of the idea to make the cameras for the satellites?
2. How long did they take to make the satellite cameras?

Things i find interesting
I. How the satellites can find anything on the earth
II. How accuret the satellites cameras are

Three things i learned
  • The British are probably the most watched people on Earth.
  • Everyday people are being photographed either if they are by themselves or in a crowd
  • When they are trying to identify suspects seen on camera is the picture quality

Two things i want to know
  • Do they use satellites cameras to find wanted people?
  • What kind of people do they mostly look for on satellites cameras?

Things i found interesting
  • That each day people are being photographed

  • All meterorologist uses satellites for weather
  • The United States committed the first satellites to the World Weather Watch

Two things i want to know
  • How accuret is the satellite cameras
  • Was the satillite cameras ever predicted the wrong weather

Things i found interesting
  • That the united states was the first to use a satellite to perdict the weather
