Some say satellites have been around before organism’s ever existed on Earth. When some one hears about satellites the thought that comes to their minds are the man made objects that revolve around the earth with a little astronaut inside. To be correct those aren’t the first real satellites, the real satellites are the moons that revolve around our planets. The reason man made objects were referred to as satellites, was because they both physically do the same thing which is revolve around a planet in a repeating amount of time and giving reactions to the planets its orbiting. In the Merriam-Webster dictionary satellites are defined as “any object which has been placed in orbit by human endeavor”. They are called artificial satellites to defer from natural satellites such as the moon. What amazes me however is the relationship that the moon and ocean have together with cant really be explained. Depending on how close or far the moon is to the ocean, the tides and wildlife react as if it were a natural calendar. For example, the closer the moon is to the water the higher the tides flow toward the beach.
With our fast-pace society ever growing over the years, there became new means of communications during times of threat. Artificial satellites were first created on October 4th 1957 by our competitive enemies, the Soviet Union in the Cold War. The famous hunk of metal was called Sputnik which pulled a completely new concept into the word technology. Since now artificial satellites have changed the way we see our planet as well as others, this was a new dawn for man that would revolutionized the way technology can be used to gather information. These orbiting beeps affect every day life dramatically, they account for about 99 percent of transferred information that is used today which is everything from advanced warfare, communication, travel and the most common source "the news". These points are what tell us were the enemy is hiding. How your grandma's doing. Weather or not you should bring an umbrella out side and how far is it till the next gas stop.
Artificial satellites affect everyone in the word although our planets population takes it for granted. Every mill-second a satellites is receiving and transferring data in a non-stop wave of incredible speeds. These beams can be used for millions of things such as; transferring phone calls, exploring the universe, taking pictures of distant planets (as well as our own), defenses from foreign objects, entertainment and basically connecting people from all across the world together. One of the best uses satellites are used for is to make everyday life easier and more convenient for society is a new devise called a G.P.S (Global Positioning System) This system is used by satellites and can help any user to locate and pinpoint exact locations on earth. Even thought this cool gadget was an advantage to armies in times of war, the invention was so convenient and useful that now families all across America have them in there cars. Submarines still use this technology to sink other vesicles but at the same time fishermen are using global positioning to see what island is ahead of them. If you’re lost and in the middle of nowhere a TOM-TOM (a type of GPS for vehicles sold in stores) can get you on your way. This advantage in technology is currently the only fully functional Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) which utilizes a constellation of at least 24 satellites that revolve around earths orbit to transmit radio signal. The system enables a GPS receiver to determine its location, speed and direction of the owners every move. Our new mean of navigation has become a widely used aid to travel worldwide, and is a useful tool for map-making, surveying, commerce, surveillance, and scientific uses. Another source that wouldn’t be possible to obtain is the different types of global pictures that our new satellites can take. Thermal pictures are what tell use the climates and temperatures on our soil. Vid. cams show our news teams the speeds and mass of whatever kind of weather is on its way, and direct images are simply just for enjoyment and record of our aging home.
If it’s a natural or artificial satellite, our world and the people in it are effect by it every day constantly and dramatically. Without satellites we would have no knowledge of our galaxies, our solar system and our home, right down to the roads we take. We would never have made any scientific breakthroughs in cosmetology and communications. Satellites are a big part of lives every second and will always be above us even thought we’ll never see them with our naked eye. These are the variables that make satellites a big part of life, because they truly a huge stepping stone in technology which effect our society on earth. The planets knowledge of information wouldn't been successful without the effort and dreaming of the brilliant minds who created these incredible machines and as long as the future is still ahead there will always be room for more inventions.
“HELP ME TOM-TOM!!”
