How does satellites affect the world with day to day things?
Satellites are necessary in our everyday lives for many things such as communicating, weather, and
military purposes. Your cell phone gets signal by satellites that might be flying over you right now.
Scientists figure out the weather with meteorological satellites. Without it you wouldn’t know what to
wear or if it will rain or snow. It can even tell when a tornado is coming. Satellites also keep you save.
Meteorologist use satellites to predict the weather. But they don’t only see cloud systems. They also
see how city light fires and pollution affect the weather.it also keep a watch on food fields. weather
satellites flown by the U.S., Europe, India, China, Russia, and Japan provide nearly continuous
observations for a global weather watch.
The spy satellite has a big influence in our society. The reason is because it was
able to detect things we couldn’t see or even get close too. It was constructed for the
military intelligence. The first spy satellites were the corona and the zenit. Which both
where capable of taking pictures and then ejecting them which would have a parachute
which will land on earth and you was able to see the pictures. Later on they was able to
improve there spy satellites with digital imagery systems that could download the images.
The spy satellites where used for taking pictures of things we weren’t able to reach without
being caught and convert communications also was able to dectect missile launches. I think
that’s very important to society and make it very easy for the military to find out what other
nations are up to and keep up to date. And not start a war with just bargaining in and demaning
on telling you what there are up too.I think it saves alot of contervesy and alot of lives.
The biggest technology which is used today is G.P.S.. Almost everybody is using this
technology from military to civilians as a everyday way of getting around our town or even around
the world. G.P.S can get you out of the worst trouble which is being lost. It can detect where your
located at and how to get back on your way to your destination. G.P.S is know for Global
Positioning System is a satellite-based navigation system which is made up of a network of 24
satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense.
There are 24 satellites that make up the GPS space segment are orbiting the earth about 12,000
miles around us daily. They are always moving, making two complete orbits in less than 24 hours.
The G.P.S satellites are moving at speeds of 7,000 miles an hour. That’s crazy fast if you ask me and
is able to reach us at the speed talk about accuracy. The first G.P.S satellite was launched in 1978.
Each satellite is launched every 10 years that’s how long they were built for so they get replaced
every 10 years. They weight around 2,000 punds and is 17 feet wide.
We should be grateful for the Russian government and the NOAA saved 166 lives in the U.S.
waters and wilderness in 2001. That’s just in one year I can imagine how many lives these system would
save. The NOAA satellites is a part of an international Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking
Program known as Cospas-Sarsat.
This device saves many lives from flooded boats, lost hikers or anyone one who had air-craft
situation like crash or abandoned in some forest or even mountain come to think about it you can be
found through out any weather situation. Since there was 166 rescues last year, 112 people were
saved on the seas 39 in the Alaska wilderness and 15 on crashed aircraft in the states around the
country.
More than 13,000 lives have been saved worldwide since the system became operational in 1982 and
more than 4,500 in the United States. That’s pretty impressive to me and I think if we had more of
these satellites worldwide we would save many lives from drowning because there in the middle of
the ocean or freezing to death because they cant be heard or seen do to weather or lost and die of
starvation or get eaten by a bear in the forest.
"We need new sources of electrical power" said John Mankins. Electronic systems are overloading all over the globe. One way to get more electricity is Solar Energy. Solar-powered satellites will become a major energy source by 2030.This consists of transmitting energy thru satellites to make electricity that can we can use to cook heat up homes and even to run cars. This can become the only way to get energy and stop depending on foreign oil. Everyday we use up more and more energy and we need a way to keep up with it. With solar energy the pollution will stop.
The sun goes thru a solar cycle every 11 years. On this stage it has eruptions and explosions that give out intensive energy. They has gave up on this idea because it was too costly but now the NASA has gotten involved and found new ways for the solar energy to be effective. A solar power satellite can make 20 to 35 percent of the suns energy into electrical current. I think is a good source of energy. It can help out a lot and in the future be a cheap source after it is well developed.
We can conclude that with out satellites life as we know it would be much more difficult. As you can see it would affect our society with day to day things because where always upgrading to easier and more comfortable lives. But that comes at a price in order to talk on a cellphone they need to put a satellite in space and same goes for cable. Also for business people that need the GPS system in order to get around and get the job done. It's just simple technogoly is the future.
