I find many of your “facts” inaccurate. The internet may have been developed in the 1960s but there was no information posted on it to research at that time. It was mainly a communications tool in its infancy.
Intel’s microprocessors that quickly proceeded the advent of the internet were not processing in MIPs (millions of instructions per second) at that time; And IBM was not a new company!
Your report does show that you did do research and gained some insight.
Topic: Does Surveillance Help or Hurt People? (1000 words)
Our society has many things, people and tools that take a big affect in it. For example, technology and the people who use it are a big part of our society. There are many different aspects of technology that indeed contributes to what surrounds our society. Some people may see technology as a waste of time, but most people may see technology as a new way of living. For most people who see technology as a new way of living might be those who are really fascinated by how our technology works. In the 1950s the first computer was designed and sold commercially, specifically for business data-processing applications, after this time many people started to buy computers and use them as a quicker way of typing work or information. Soon after that time computers got more advanced and modern then in 1960 the internet was created. Many people found the internet as a quick way of looking for information and researching. Not long afterwards many new advanced technologies were created. For example, larger microprocessors that are able to perform 112 million instructions per second was created by Intel, a new company called the IBM created a 16-bit microprocessor, the Macintosh was created by the Apple company, and many other companies started to compete with each other creating new ways to make their machines more advanced then the next. But most importantly above all technologies, the camera was created.
Aside from the computers and the new advanced technology, cameras created its own category in our society. It was the start of being able to create moving images with sound and also just plain still images. The first cameras were used by photographers during the 11th century; this was the birth of all photography. Before photography processes were invented, there were no way of capturing and preserving the images. Many Europeans would use the method of hiring a painter to paint there pictures. Joseph Nicéphore Niépce was the first photographer to take the first photograph using a camera. Just a few years later the video cameras were created and more movies were made for people’s entertainment. Many modern inventions affected the society we are in now. All the technologies that have been created are used all over the world by many people. The earliest for of cameras were created in the late 1830s. To this day different cameras and technologies are still being made. An important aspect of technology that I have chosen is Camera Surveillance and how it affects our society.
Camera surveillance, also know as CCTV, Closed Circuit Television, is widely used around the world for many preferences. Some people might use camera surveillance around their homes or jobs. According to one researcher, "multiple indicators collect ever more data, unconnected surveillance threads are being woven into gigantic tapestries of information". This means that surveillance is used by many people many to keep data of what’s going on around them. Because of the cheap pricing of camera surveillances many people just use them around their house to feel secure. In our society today, prevention is a major concern and everyone is trying to feel more secure in their own homes. Anticipatory surveillance strategies are usually used to reduce risk or uncertainty, according to one website. The technology in our world today is so advanced that it’s traveling around the world. Some companies use satellite technology to pinpoint the location of their trucks on a video screen. Relating to camera surveillances other companies are using a system called the Electronic Article-Surveillance which is being used mainly by stores, supermarkets, hospitals, libraries and other stores. This system when triggered sets off buzzer sounds and lights flash if a customer goes through checkout with a concealed item. Tracking devices relating to surveillance is also a big use in our society now. The location of someone can be tracked just by a card. Card-Security Systems are put into their ID which has a magnetic stripe and they must check in and check out using a computer. All these forms of modern technology are used by everyone and everyone, in jobs, homes, and in public places.
On the other hand, people agree with the idea of camera surveillance, but other people might strongly disagree with the fact. They feel that their privacy is being invaded through cameras that are put around the streets. Most people might take it as an offense to their constitutional rights. People who feel strongly about our Constitution might feel that their individual right to privacy is being violated. They might feel that it is safe to have camera surveillance around their homes, but also they might feel that cameras being put around the streets are a strict violation of their privacy. Most people might think that their privacy is no longer an issue in our society. For most people surveillance might be an invasion to their privacy but for others surveillance might be the only thing that can bring them justice. Camera surveillance is a good way of presenting an accurate piece of evidence. For example if someone is getting sexually abused or beaten in a public area where no one can help them, police can capture the perpetrators by looking back at the video. According to one website researcher, it states that there is always a downside to hi-tech spy systems most of the people they watch are law-abiding, however, anything that is caught on tape can't be used unless a crime has been committed.
In most cases some places that use camera surveillance doesn’t let their customers or the people being captured know about them. No one can really tell whether camera surveillance is legal or not. The government is fighting their case to either be legal or illegal to have cameras on the streets. But some people say hidden cameras invade people's privacy, catching their most vulnerable moments on tape. This starts another conspiracy between people who are pro hidden cameras and people who are against it. In conclusion camera surveillance is wanted by some and most people are strongly against it. Some forms of technology might affect society in a good or bad way depending on how people might feel for advanced technology.
